Alicia Tait has dedicated hers to music. In addition to singing July 29 and Aug. 8 at the Western Canada Summer Games in Sherwood Park, and a July 4 celebration in Portland, Ore., one of her most recent gigs was opening for Doc Walker and Amanda Wilkinson at the Magnificent River Rats Festival in Athabasca on Canada Day. But her dedication also goes beyond performing. When she's struck
with an idea for a song that she knows is worth keeping, and she's
in a hurry, she'll call her cell phone and wait for the voice mail
to kick in. Later, she takes that sound bite and creates a song. But she also collaborates. On her forthcoming album; Smoke and Mirrors, she's co-written 3 songs and does a song written by Travis Howard (Miranda Lambert) and a song written by Keith Urban. "The rest is all written by me," she says. She's already released a demo version of Give me a Reason from the album to her website as a teaser. Sultry pops up often in discussions about her singing, she says. Her serene stage presence belies a powerful voice, accompanied by gifted songwriting. She recently sang The National Anthem at an Edmonton Eskimos game. Other milestone moments so far have been: performing at the Calgary Stampede, the Merritt Mountain Music Festival, World Beat at The Commodore Ballroom, Rock for Hope at the Plaza of Nations, the Oregon Jamboree, and the BC Country Music Awards. Alicia has consistently toured since 2003, when organizers of the Canadian Country Music Association chose her to perform an official showcase for industry delegates. In addition to recording her own material and writing for other artists, several independent movies and television shows have featured her songs. Currently, she plays live with members of Adam Gregory's long-time band, D.L.O, and writes in her off time. Alicia's new album "Smoke and Mirrors" is presently in
pre-production and is scheduled for release in 2008. The album will
be produced by Chad Melchert and Mark Puffer (Adam Gregory, Gord Bamford,
and Duane Steele).
